Representatives of several energy companies from around 10 countries, including manufacturers of internal combustion engines for power plants, were introduced to the infrastructure of Termoelectrica S.A., which is set to be modernized as part of an investment package for the construction of two high-performance combined heat and power plants (CHPs) with a total electrical capacity of approximately 55 MW (or more) and thermal capacity of at least 43 Gcal/h.
This investment package is currently undergoing an international tender and is part of the second project aimed at improving the efficiency of the centralized thermal energy supply system (PIESACET-2), financed by the World Bank, with Termoelectrica S.A. as the beneficiary.
The event aimed to familiarize potential bidders with the requirements of the tender specifications, the energy infrastructure of the company, and the tender procedure. The event included site visits and working sessions both online and in person. Thus, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and receive clarifications from the Consolidated Unit for Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), Termoelectrica S.A., and consultants supporting the implementer in the tender process.
According to Ruslan Surugiu, Director of UCIPE, this investment package is crucial both for Termoelectrica S.A. and for ensuring the country’s energy security, as the company is one of the most important producers of thermal and electric energy in Moldova:
“We expect strong interest from companies with international experience and expertise in such installations based on modern and flexible high-efficiency cogeneration technologies to provide the project beneficiary — Termoelectrica S.A. — with the best technological solutions for energy and operational efficiency.”
Meanwhile, Iurie Razlovan, General Director of Termoelectrica S.A., highlighted the company’s urgent need to modernize infrastructure and improve the quality of thermal energy services:
“Despite our efforts to maintain and service our energy infrastructure, the age of the installations is a factor we cannot ignore. We desire next-generation equipment capable of delivering thermal and electric energy at the highest possible efficiency. According to the tender specifications, the new plants will operate efficiently year-round, supplying electricity and thermal energy to the national power system and, respectively, to Chișinău’s centralized heating system.”
The investment package for “Installation of high-efficiency cogeneration plants based on gas engines at CT Vest and CET Sursa 3, including the installation of electric transformers and distribution facilities (design, supply, installation)” is currently open for international tender.
