For generations, the student dormitory of Vocational School No. 5 in Chișinău has been home to young people building careers in the food industry — future bakers, chefs, pastry makers, and food production specialists.
Built in 1976, the building has supported thousands of students over the years. Yet like many public buildings, it has never undergone major energy-efficiency renovations, leading to higher energy costs and reduced comfort for residents.
Through the INSPIREE Project, this is set to change. The dormitory will be renovated to improve energy performance, creating a more comfortable and sustainable living environment for students while reducing energy consumption and operational costs.
This is one of 30 public buildings across the country selected for energy rehabilitation.
The investment will help deliver:
- Better living conditions for beneficiaries
- Lower energy use
- Reduced operating costs
- A healthier and more sustainable environment
This year, detailed energy audits and technical assessments will be carried out for each building included in the project. These studies will identify the most effective renovation measures and prepare the way for implementation.
The INSPIREE Project is implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova through the Ministry of Energy and Moldova Energy Projects Implementation Unit (MEPIU), with the financial support from the French Development Agency AFD (EUR 30.0 million loan) and the Federal Government of Germany (EUR 38.7 million grant) through German Development Bank (KfW).
