Priorities and progress in the implementation of three strategic energy projects, financed by the World Bank Group and implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova through the MEPIU, were discussed during a World Bank mission to Chișinău.
Throughout the mission, working meetings and field visits were held with the participation of all stakeholders. Discussions focused on the following projects:
Power System Development Project (PSDP) – involves the construction of the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău OHTL and the modernization/expansion of two substations. The beneficiaries are Moldelectrica State Enterprise and electricity consumers.
Second District Heating Efficiency Improvement Project in Chișinău (DHEIP2) – aims to improve the efficiency of the district heating system in Chișinău municipality. Beneficiary: Termoelectrica.
Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project (STEEM) – focuses on the energy-efficient renovation of 46 schools across the country and the installation of around 300 individual heating substations, benefiting pupils, teachers, local communities, and public institutions.
MEPIU Director Ruslan Surugiu presented the projects’ implementation status in terms of technical, financial, environmental, and social dimensions, underlining their importance for strengthening the energy sector and modernizing critical infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova.
World Bank experts acknowledged the progress achieved under these projects and reiterated the Bank’s commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova in diversifying energy sources, enhancing energy security, and improving access to reliable, safe, and high-quality energy services.
