About 100 foundations, representing 20% of the total number required for the towers of the Vulcănești–Chișinău Overhead Power Line (LEA), are currently under construction, with 80 of them already completed. The construction site has expanded over several segments totaling more than 30 kilometers, approximately 20% of the LEA’s total length.
Additionally, over 70% of the landowners or tenants where the works have been carried out have received compensation for the temporary or permanent expropriation of their land.
According to Ruslan Surugiu, director of the Consolidated Unit for Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), a precise work plan has been established together with the contractor to ensure the works are completed within the set deadlines.
“Being directly responsible for the expropriation procedure, the UCIPE team makes efforts to reach every individual to explain the expropriation process, how compensation evaluations are made, and what benefits there are both for them and for the country in general,” added Ruslan Surugiu.
The Vulcănești–Chișinău Overhead Power Line will have a total length of 157 kilometers. More than 500 towers and 1,500 kilometers of conductors will create a strategic connection between the south and center of the country, crossing 8 districts and 35 localities. Depending on the power system regime, the line will be able to ensure the transit of up to 630 MVA, which could cover 50% of the energy consumption during peak periods.
The construction of the overhead power line is part of the Power System Development Project. The project’s value is 61 million euros, of which about 27 million euros are allocated for the construction of the line. The project is financed by the World Bank.
The project beneficiary is the state enterprise Moldelectrica and the electricity consumers.
