The pumping installation for feeding Steam Boiler No. 2 of the Thermal Power Plant, Source-1, within Termoelectrica S.A., is scheduled to be retrofitted with state-of-the-art, high-performance equipment. The contract for the “Installation of a new feed pump and motor (including related equipment) for the steam boiler in Unit No. 2, Thermal Power Plant Source-1 (design, supply, and installation)” has come into effect. This contract is part of the second Project for Improving the Efficiency of the Centralized Thermal Energy Supply System in Chișinău (PIESACET-2), funded by the World Bank.
The modernization of the pumping installation involves the installation of a new feed pump with an electric motor equipped with a frequency converter, which will ensure optimal operation across the full range of operating regimes of the energy unit. Additionally, the related electrical equipment will be replaced, and a modern automation system will be installed.
The feed pump supplies the steam boiler with the necessary volume of high-pressure water used to produce steam for the cogeneration of electricity and heat within the Thermal Power Plant.
It is worth noting that the existing feed pump and electric motor have been in operation for over 40 years.
The project implementation will considerably improve the efficiency and reliability of the energy unit’s operation. A similar investment was successfully completed for Unit No. 1, Thermal Power Plant Source-1, under the first Project for Improving the Efficiency of the Centralized Thermal Energy Supply System (SACET). The results showed electricity savings of at least 1 MW per hour.
The contractor is responsible for project documentation preparation, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the new equipment and systems. The works are expected to be completed within approximately 12 months.
