27 Jan 2025

The deadline for submitting bids for the international tender for the construction in Chisinau of two high-performance CHPs with a total electrical power of about 55 MW and a thermal power of at least 43 Gcal/h is approaching. At the request of the bidding companies, the deadline for submitting bids has been extended until February 21, 2025.

The project provides for the construction of state-of-the-art facilities, using modern and flexible high-efficiency cogeneration technologies, thus contributing to increasing the domestic electricity production capacity and strengthening the country's energy security.

The construction of the high-performance CHPs was approved by the Government in 2023. They will replace the former CHP-1, put into operation in 1951, and will be able to operate throughout the year, not just during the heating season, covering the thermal load by producing domestic hot water.

In October 2024, the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE) announced the repeated tender procedure. At that time, additional steps were taken to facilitate the involvement of a larger number of international companies that have the technologies, capabilities and experience necessary to carry out the given project.

The power plants are to be completed within 2 years from the date of entry into force of the contract for the performance of construction works. The cost of the project is 81 million euros.

The beneficiary of the project is Termoelectrica S.A. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, through the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE).

The international tender for “Installation of high-efficiency gas-fired cogeneration plants at CT Vest and CET Sursa 3, and installation of electrical transformers and distribution facilities (design, supply, installation)” is part of the Second District Heating System Efficiency Improvement Project (PIESACET-2), financed by the World Bank (World Bank Group Moldova).
