The site entry and the commencement of construction works for the Vulcănești – Chișinău Overhead Power Line are getting closer. The first standard foundation, which will serve as the base for the pylons, has been built and tested for strength, and the results have demonstrated that it meets all performance criteria.
The foundation construction took place over the past few weeks in the region of Băcioi commune. The construction process was carried out in stages, in accordance with the necessary requirements and standards, initially preparing the foundation pit, then building the foundation with a height of approximately 4 meters, followed by soil backfilling with compaction. After the works were completed, a special installation was mounted for lifting tests.
The foundation will have a load-bearing capacity of over 45 tons, corresponding to the tallest metal pylon of the power line, which will have a height of about 50 meters.
“The construction of the Overhead Power Line is a project of strategic importance for the Republic of Moldova and its energy security. Such a large-scale project has not been implemented in our country for at least the last 30 years. This fact encourages us but also holds us responsible to ensure that all preliminary stages before starting construction are carried out according to standards, law, and the project as closely as possible,” said Ruslan Surugiu, Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects.
The construction of the 400 kV overhead power line (OHL) for electricity transmission from Vulcănești to Chișinău is part of the Development Project for the Power System in the Republic of Moldova. The project value is 61 million euros and is financed by the World Bank.
