Modern equipment, including 4 single-phase autotransformers, necessary for the modernization of the Chișinău 330 kV Electric Station, is being delivered to the Republic of Moldova during the period of March 1–18. The equipment, with a total combined weight exceeding 600 tons, is being transported under special conditions using oversized transport vehicles escorted by police.
“Although there were some delays in contract implementation during the previous year, these have now been fully overcome, with the goal of meeting the terms of the implementation contract,” noted Ruslan Surugiu, Director of UCIPE.
In total, over 20 trucks carrying equipment and 4 single-phase autotransformers with a rated capacity of 210 MVA each will be delivered. It is worth mentioning that the autotransformer is one of the key elements of the electric station.
The station’s modernization is being carried out within the context of the development of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova. It will enable the connection of the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău power line to the electrical networks linked to the Chișinău Electric Station and is necessary to ensure cross-border energy transmission between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. This will increase the electricity supply capacity of the consumption node in the central region of the country, including the municipality of Chișinău, and will ensure the safe and reliable operation of the entire power system of the Republic of Moldova.
Current status of the investment package: the execution project is in the process of development and coordination; the main equipment has been manufactured, factory-tested, and is in the delivery process. Construction works are scheduled to begin soon.
The contractor (the consortium of Siemens Energy SRL, Electromontaj SA, and Energotech SA, Romania) is responsible for the full scope of design, manufacturing, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and training, including:
- A new 330 kV cell connected to the new 400/330/35 kV autotransformers and the extension of the existing 330 kV installation;
- A new 400 kV cell for the Vulcănești–Chișinău Overhead Power Line;
- 4 autotransformers of 400/330/35 kV.
The investment package is part of the Power System Development Project and falls within the priority measures of the Government and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, aimed at ensuring the country’s energy security.
