World Bank Energy Experts Commend Progress of Ongoing Projects in the Sector

The overall implementation progress, technical, financial, environmental and social aspects, as well as other priorities related to the Moldovan Power System Development Project and the Chisinau District Heating System Efficiency Improvement Project (PIESACET-2), were examined during a World Bank mission to Chisinau.

In this context, during September 16-20, several working meetings and field visits were held, including at the construction site of the 400 kV Vulcănești-Chisinau Overhead Power Line and at the Chisinau Power Station. At the same time, discussions were held on the subject of achieving the conditions for the entry into force of the new Project "Sustainable Transition to Energy Efficiency in Moldova (STEEM Project)", the Loan Agreement and the Grant Agreement for the implementation of the Project activities being signed in August this year.

The meetings were held with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Education and Research, S.A. Termoelectrica, Î.S. Moldelectrica and the team of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), responsible for the implementation of the projects.

  • Project for the Development of the Electric Power System of the Republic of Moldova (PDSE): priority activities construction of the high-voltage overhead power line on the Vulcănești-Chișinău direction of 400 kV, modernization/expansion of two power stations. The beneficiary of the project is Î.S. Moldelectrica.
     
  • Project for Improving the Efficiency of the Centralized Thermal Power Supply System (PIESACET-2): general purpose increase efficiency of the centralized thermal energy supply system in Chisinau. The project beneficiary is Termoelectrica S.A..
     
  • The project "Sustainable Transition to Energy Efficiency in Moldova (STEEM)": priority activities are the energy rehabilitation of 46 schools throughout the country and the installation of about 250 individual thermal points.

The projects are financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Energy, through the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE).
