Progress in the Implementation of the Moldova Power System Development Project (PSDP) Praised During World Bank Mission
The progress in implementing the Power System Development Project (PSDP) in Moldova was praised during a World Bank mission visit to Chișinău, which took place from June 3–7, 2024. The agenda included a series of working meetings and field visits, including to the construction site of the Vulcănești–Chișinău overhead transmission line and the materials storage facility.
The main topics discussed focused on technical aspects of the project, environmental and social safeguards, and the implementation status of the land expropriation action plan related to the construction of the Vulcănești–Chișinău transmission line.
In this context, World Bank experts appreciated the complex work carried out by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), in cooperation with local public authorities, social impact monitoring committees, and the contractor, in ensuring compliance with all environmental and social requirements.
UCIPE Director Ruslan Surugiu emphasized that the support provided by the World Bank for energy infrastructure projects is essential, especially during this period when the Government of the Republic of Moldova is making significant efforts to ensure the country’s energy security, including through the diversification of energy sources.
The Power System Development Project in the Republic of Moldova aims to construct a high-voltage overhead transmission line between Vulcănești and Chișinău, to modernize/expand two electrical substations, and to strengthen the dispatching and electricity metering systems. The total value of the project is €61 million, financed by the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group.
